Lessons Learned

Now some of these below may seem obvious you to, but I wanted to capture some of the learning moments I've had over the last couple years.

  1. Using the right tools will save you tons of time and pain and will make your project look more professional. Check out my page on the basic tools I use and why clamps, the right sander, and wood glue is so important!
  2. The first project I did I forgot to drill the pocket holes from the base to secure the top of the table without screw marks. To get the top onto the table, I drilled from the top of the table to place the screws. This is when I learned about pilot holes. A couple of the planks started to crack until I drilled small holes to places the screws into.
  3. Measure all the doorways your project needs to fit through before you construct. Not all doors are the same size in your house!
